My In-Laws Are Taking Everything and My Wife Says Nothing

I’m new in America, and I’ve only been in Canada for two years. A few months ago, my little brother introduced me to one of his friends—she was unbelievably beautiful.
We chatted for about six months, and I decided to come back home to marry her—traditional wedding, city hall, and church. I just wanted to keep things simple, but the trouble started when her parents made it clear their daughter deserved better. They even said, “Her cousin’s fiancé in France did more than this.” That’s when the pressure started.
Then came the honeymoon. I have no idea how they found out, but they wanted all the details—the exact hotel, the class, even the length of our stay—as if it had become a family project. My wife denies it, but they told me Kribi, a place in Cameroon, was “old news” for their daughter. I got so frustrated that I canceled the trip.
I had already bought a round-trip ticket, so my stay was short. But when I went to say goodbye to my in-laws, they asked where their daughter would stay. I said at our place while I sorted the paperwork because I wanted her to move in the same year. They said no—that I needed to rent her a high-end apartment and furnish it, not just anywhere, but in a specific neighborhood, with air conditioning… She sat there, quiet, not a word, not a look of support. All this while knowing I’d just barely gotten stable in Canada after all my struggles.
I wonder if it’s always going to be like this, and I suspect my wife is using her parents to get what she wants because at no point does she defend me.
