My Mother-in-Law Doesn’t Like My Kids

My Mother-in-Law Doesn’t Like My Kids

I’ve been married for six years to a man who was married before me. From that first marriage, he has two kids who get along really well with mine. He kicked their mom out because she cheated on him.

When I came into his life, I thought I’d be starting a peaceful, happy chapter.

Together, we’ve had two kids. We all live in the same house as his mother, and from the very beginning, I’ve felt that she doesn’t like them. The four kids play together, laugh together, and treat each other like siblings—but my mother-in-law always makes it clear she favors the first two. She gives them more attention and kindness.

As for my kids, it’s constant criticism. She says they aren’t pretty, they aren’t smart, and they don’t even look like their father. She complains that they’re too noisy, that they bother her, and she’s even forbidden them from calling her “grandma.” The worst is when my kids come to me crying, saying grandma doesn’t love them.

My husband sees it all, but he doesn’t think it’s a problem. He doesn’t stand up for me. I’ve tried talking to him, but she just insults us. These days, I feel angry, sad, and completely drained. Watching my kids be rejected like this hurts so much.

She doesn’t like me—but my kids haven’t done anything wrong, and it’s so frustrating for them.
